Flood-hit Guizhou, a southwestern province in China, urged vulnerable communities to seek higher ground as rivers overflowed after days of heavy rain, with some cities facing high flood levels.

On June 24, local authorities in Guizhou, including those in Rongjiang County, ordered urgent evacuations for residents of low-lying areas due to severe flooding and rising river levels.

According to local media outlet Rongjiang Release, due to continuous heavy rainfall and upstream water inflow, water levels in the Pingyong River, Zhaihao River, and Duliu River in Rongjiang county are rising rapidly, indicating they have exceeded the 30-year flood level, creating immense flood control pressure.
On June 24, Congjiang resident Tian Ming told the Chinese edition of The Epoch Times that Changba Street, where her parents’ flat is located, is severely flooded.

“I can’t reach my parents by phone—no running water or electricity is available, and the floodwater has risen to the third floor,” she said.

Her parents are sheltering at a neighbor’s home. “We’re worried the water might keep rising, though it seems to have receded slightly now.”

She added: “This is the worst flood I’ve ever seen. The water has never reached the third floor—it is truly frightening.”

Local netizens posted videos showing the county’s largest and busiest mall, Changchi Plaza, inundated with floodwater pouring in like a waterfall.

On Tuesday, local media reported that a viaduct on a highway to Rongjiang collapsed when a landslide knocked down concrete supports, causing part of the road to slide down the hillside.

A video shared on social media showed a cargo truck stopped on the edge of a road that gave way, leaving it teetering as the driver awaited rescue.
According to Red Star News, a drone video provided by a Rongjiang County resident shows the Village Super League stadium, where matches were recently held, completely submerged in floodwater. Surrounding city streets are also extensively flooded. Some residents are using plastic basins to rescue people in residential areas, with the basins nearly reaching second-floor balconies.

Since last week, heavy rains from an intensified East Asian monsoon have pummeled Guizhou’s mountainous region and other southern Chinese areas, shattering rainfall records in some parts.

Worsening the situation, the Guizhou Meteorological Bureau forecasts heavy rain from June 24–27, heightening risks of floods, geological disasters, and urban waterlogging.
