President Donald Trump said on Feb. 6 that investigators may have uncovered some “very strong” leads that could provide answers in the disappearance case of Nancy Guthrie.

“I think we’re doing very well. Very well meaning we have some clues that I think are very strong, and I think we could have some answers coming up fairly soon,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Trump said that “a lot of things have happened” in the last couple of hours concerning Guthrie’s disappearance, but he did not provide details.

“We have some things I think that will maybe come out reasonably soon from DOJ [Department of Justice] or FBI or whoever, that could be definitive,” the president said.

Earlier in the day, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said they obtained “one new piece of information” from a message related to Guthrie’s disappearance and are reviewing its authenticity. They did not specify the nature or content of the message.

The sheriff’s department posted on X that it has restricted the roadway in front of Guthrie’s home to allow investigators to carry out follow-up work at the residence and in the surrounding areas.

Guthrie, 84, who is the mother of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie,  was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31 at her home in Catalina Foothills, a Tucson suburb, Arizona. Investigators believe she may have been abducted.

Trump said on Feb. 5 that he had directed all federal law enforcement to assist in the investigation.

“I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing all Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, immediately,” he wrote on Truth Social. “We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely.”

Earlier in the week, multiple news outlets reported receiving ransom notes related to Guthrie’s disappearance, which they handed over to the authorities.

The FBI said the alleged notes included two deadlines, the first on Feb. 5 and the second on Feb. 9, but added that they contained no other demands or proof of life.
Speaking alongside her siblings in a Feb. 4 video, Savannah acknowledged reports of a ransom letter and said the family is ready to communicate with possible captors.

“As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated,” Savannah said. “We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you.”

Authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information about Guthrie’s whereabouts or information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect involved in her disappearance.
