Brazilian Taste is recalling over 4,000 pounds of frozen chicken and beef croquettes that were distributed across several states after federal regulators discovered the products were mislabeled and contained an undeclared allergen, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The Lexington, South Carolina-based company announced the recall of about 4,120 pounds of croquette products after discovering they contain sesame, a known allergen that was not listed on the product packaging. Health officials warn that undeclared sesame in these products could trigger severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions in those with a sesame allergy.

The recalled croquettes were distributed to retail stores in Connecticut, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, with nationwide reach through online sales. However, the company has not disclosed specific store names. NTD has requested a full list of affected retailers from both FSIS and Brazilian Taste.

The recall affects three popular frozen croquette products under the Saint Coxinha brand:
  • 17.63-oz. bags of “Saint Coxinha XL Chicken Croquettes” with "Best By" dates from Nov. 4, 2025, to April 19, 2026
  • 15.8-oz. bags of “Saint Coxinha Chicken Croquettes” with "Best by" dates from Nov. 4, 2025, to April 19, 2026
  • 13.7-oz. bags of “Saint Coxinha Ground Beef Croquette Risole De Carne” with a "Best by" date of Feb. 2, 2026
The recalled packages also have an establishment number, “P-45640” or “Est. 45640,” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The FSIS stated that the problem was discovered after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerted them, finding that breadcrumbs used in products from the same facility that the FDA regulates and oversees, as well as those regulated by FSIS, contained sesame that wasn’t always listed on the labels.

So far, no adverse reactions have been reported in connection with the recalled items. However, anyone with a sesame allergy should avoid these products. “Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider,” FSIS said.

“FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ freezers,” the recall notice stated, adding that: “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

In 2023, sesame was named as the ninth major food allergen under the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act. According to the FDA, even trace amounts of sesame can trigger allergic responses in sensitive individuals.
