A United Airlines flight traveling from New Jersey to Guatemala was diverted to the Washington Dulles International Airport Thursday night after a passenger allegedly tried to open a cabin door midair.
A spokesperson for United Airlines told NTD via email Friday that the flight was carrying 145 passengers and six crew members, adding that the Boeing 737 MAX 8 landed safely in Dulles, where it "was met by law enforcement to address an unruly passenger."
"The flight was canceled, with a replacement flight added for Friday morning, and customers were provided overnight accommodations," the spokesperson said.
"They're asking me what door seat the passenger tried to open," an air traffic controller says.
"Door 2L at 36,000 feet and then assaulted a fellow passenger," the pilot responds, adding that he was not aware of any injuries.
United's representative also noted that no injuries were reported by any passengers. The spokesperson did not share any details about what might have led up to the incident.
Officials have not released the identity of the passenger, and it is unclear whether an arrest was made or if any charges have been filed. NTD reached out to local authorities for more information, but a response was not received by publication time.
A similar incident occurred earlier this month on a United Airlines flight traveling from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey.
"One individual on the plane refused medical attention," the department added. "No other injuries were reported."
