An unruly passenger made a bomb threat aboard a Frontier Airlines flight after it landed in Atlanta over the weekend, prompting authorities to divert the plane and evacuate passengers.

Officers and federal authorities responded to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 4:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, the Atlanta Police Department shared in a statement.
According to online tracking data from FlightAware, Frontier Flight 2539—arriving from Columbus, Ohio—landed at about 4 p.m. and was taxiing to its gate when the incident occurred.
In an audio recording shared online, the pilot can be heard radioing in a Level 3 threat to air traffic control, signaling life-threatening behavior by a passenger on board. The pilot described the passenger as a black male, approximately 5'9" and 58 to 60 years old, noting that he was seated in 3A.

"He's in his seat—he's already threatened to kill the lady who's sitting next to him, and he's saying that he has a bomb on board," the pilot said, noting that he had no additional updates on the reported bomb.

"No details as of right now," the pilot added. "That's as much information as we got."

NTD reached out to Frontier for comment, but a response was not received by publication time. However, the airline told USA Today that the plane was diverted before reaching its gate.

"As a matter of precaution and in coordination with local authorities, the aircraft parked at a remote location while law enforcement responded," Frontier said.

Several passengers described the tense moments in the cabin, with one telling WSB-TV Atlanta News that the entire incident was stressful.

Keyaira Smith, who was also on board, said the man kept standing up despite repeatedly being told to sit down.

"He said that he was going to threaten or kill the flight attendants," Smith recounted to the station.

The bomb threat was ultimately deemed non-credible, and the FBI said there was no continuing threat related to the incident.

"FBI Georgia responded, along with Atlanta Police, this afternoon after a flight from Columbus to Atlanta was disrupted by an unruly passenger," the agency told WSB-TV. "All passengers and crew were taken off the aircraft. The FBI can assure the traveling public there is no continuing threat related to this incident."

The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident and will consult with the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Georgia to determine whether federal charges will be filed in the case.
