Vietnam hosted senior officials from both China and Japan over the weekend.

First to get there was Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. On Saturday, before leaving the city, Wang promised to send 3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from China to Vietnam.

The same day, Japan signed a defense transfer agreement with Vietnam. The deal allows Japan to send over equipment and technology, amid growing concerns about Beijing’s military influence in the Indo-Pacific.
