During an update on the Iran conflict, War Secretary Pete Hegseth described his unannounced visit to a CENTCOM base and disclosed new details about alleged negotiations while Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Dan Caine discussed deploying U.S. troops on the ground.

Hegseth did not disclose the base location he toured on Saturday, in order to secure operations and protect the troops.

“I witnessed urgency to finish the job, urgency to achieve mission success, not looking at the next rotation, only moving as fast as possible to win,” he said on Tuesday. “The kind of war-fighting American spirit that comes with a clear mission against a determined enemy.”

Trump pre-emptively struck Iran on Feb. 28, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Israeli Defense Forces.

Dubbed Operation Epic Fury, the excursion has sunk more than 60 Iranian ships, struck a multitude of targets across Iran and its military infrastructure, leveled drone factories, neutralized Iran's missile launchers, and hit ballistic missile manufacturing facilities.

“These troops, they want to finish this fight for their kids and their grandkids,” Hegseth said. “This is about history. This is about legacy. Success matters, and because of this president and these Americans, we’re closer than ever before to winning.”

While President Donald Trump said recently that Iran has agreed to most elements of a 15-point U.S. proposal to end the conflict, the former Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander denied negotiating with the United States.

Hegseth assured reporters who questioned the authenticity of negotiations that they are real, ongoing, active, and gaining strength.

“We appreciate that,” he said. “We would much prefer to get a deal if Iran was willing to relinquish material they have and ambitions they have.”

Hegseth further urged regime representatives to cut a deal or face the consequences.

“President Trump doesn't bluff and he does not back down,” he said. “President Trump will make a deal. He is willing and the terms of the deal are known to them. If Iran is not willing, then the United States War Department will continue with even more intensity.”

After Hegseth closed his speech with a prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Caine said the soldiers and the Marines who have been deployed to the Middle East serve an extensive range of military options, including a present threat to Iran.

“Iran should note that they're out there and that they are a pressure point and so they should carefully consider, at the diplomatic level, what's in front of them,” Caine added.
