A shooting at a birthday party in Northern California over the weekend left one person dead and six others injured, authorities said.
Multiple people were found suffering from gunshot wounds, and deputies provided medical aid until emergency personnel arrived. Officers from the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, San Jose Police Department, and California Highway Patrol also responded to help manage the scene and support the ongoing investigation.
Officials said several victims were transported to local hospitals for injuries they sustained. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of any of the victims. NTD reached out to the sheriff's office for more information, but a response was not received by publication time.
According to authorities, the gathering was an "unsanctioned party" promoted through social media. Media footage from the scene showed a sign on a street post reading "Natedebaiits birthday party," though officials have not confirmed the organizer of the event.
The San Francisco Bay Area-based Twitch streamer known online as Natedebaiits later addressed the incident in an Instagram Story post, saying that a friend and classmate he identified only as Dezzi had been killed at the party.
"My heart breaks for everyone affected," he wrote. "Please keep his family and everyone in the hospital in your prayers."
The sheriff's office said more than 300 people attended the event. Authorities have not identified a possible suspect in connection with the shooting, but homicide detectives believe the incident was isolated.
Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Jonsen condemned the shooting as a "tragic and senseless" act of violence.
"Our hearts go out to the victim's family, those recovering from their injuries and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event," Jonsen added. "We will work tirelessly until those responsible for this horrific act are identified, apprehended, and held fully accountable."
The investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing. Anyone with information or video footage of the incident has been asked to contact the Sheriff's Office Investigative Services Division directly by calling 408-808-4431 or emailing [email protected]
