Two teenage girls are facing criminal charges after authorities said they led Ohio police on a stolen vehicle chase reaching speeds of up to 100 mph from Dayton to Bowling Green, near Toledo, early Monday morning.

The 13- and 15-year-old minors allegedly stole the car from a Dayton-area group home, Lt. Ryan Tackett of the Bowling Green Police Division told local media during a press briefing.

"We received a plate reader hit of a stolen vehicle out of Montgomery County, and officers were able to locate that vehicle in the area of 25 and Nims Road," Tackett said. "As far as we can gather from the report, that their cell phone was taken away from them by the caregiver at the house and then they took the car."

Dash cam footage shared with local Toledo station WTVG shows Bowling Green police attempting to stop the stolen vehicle.

One officer can be heard shouting, "Driver, place your hands out the window," before the car speeds away.

Tackett said officers with the Perrysburg Police Department were able to get behind the vehicle near Roachton Road, roughly 8 miles away, before it collided with another vehicle. Dash cam video shows the stolen vehicle slammed against the other car's passenger side. Smoke can be seen billowing from the stolen car, and its hood is smashed in.

The two teens attempted to flee the scene on foot but were quickly apprehended.

Tackett told local media that the 13-year-old—who was allegedly driving the stolen vehicle—was taken to a Toledo hospital for an injured shoulder and that both girls were charged with receiving stolen property.

"Due to them being from another county, a lot of times that’s transferred back to the county from where they originate from," Tackett said during the briefing. "We were a little bit surprised it was a 13- and 15-year-old, especially at the speeds somewhere approaching 100 mph."

Tackett did not have additional information to share with NTD. NTD reached out to the Perrysburg Police Department for comment but did not receive a response by publication time.

The incident follows a similar high-speed chase in Ohio involving minors last month. An 11-year-old boy and two other juveniles also faced criminal charges after fleeing police in Newburgh Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, on Dec. 20.

The stolen vehicle crashed into a home, and the three juveniles—including an 8-year-old and 12-year-old who were passengers in the car—ran from the scene but were promptly arrested by local police.
