Police in Florida released bodycam footage of the arrest of golf superstar Tiger Woods.
Woods was arrested for driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a drug test after he crashed his Range Rover into a trailer carrying pressure washing equipment and overturned. Several local news outlets published bodycam and dashcam footage of the arrest.
The footage shows Woods on a knee as a deputy checks him for injuries.
"I was looking down, at my phone, and then, 'boom,'" he can be heard saying as he examines him. The deputy then walks over to Woods's overturned SUV and asks who hit whom, before walking over to the pressure washer trailer and examining it, then redirecting traffic away from the crash site.
A deputy then administers a field sobriety test to Woods. The deputy instructs Woods to sit on the front of the car, then asks if he has had anything to drink or taken any prescription medication.
"I take a few," he replies, listing several prescription pain medications he takes, when he takes them, and dosages for a few of them. The deputy administers a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test, in which she instructs Woods to follow a pen with his eyes. Afterwards, a second deputy conducts a hand coordination test: he instructs Woods to stack his fists one over another horizontally, then clap his hands, then reverse the process while counting out loud. But Woods loses count on the way back.
At that point, the first deputy handcuffs him and tells Woods that she believes his faculties are impaired, and therefore is placing him under arrest for DUI. The second deputy conducts a search of his pockets, recovering two small white pills that Woods admits are narcotics. He places the pills in an evidence bag, then continues his search. The pills were later identified as the opioid hydrocodone.
Woods told the deputies that he had been looking at his phone and adjusting the radio, and was unable to stop before he hit the truck in front of him.
The deputies conducted a field sobriety test; the deputy conducting the test noticed that Woods had a limp and was wearing a compression garment on his right knee. Woods responded by citing more than 20 surgeries on his leg and another 7 on his back, and said his ankle often seizes up when he walks.
Woods submitted to a breathalyzer test, which returned a zero result. But he refused a urinalysis test at the local jail. He is charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence with property damage and misdemeanor refusal to submit to a lawful test.
