Famed jewelry designer Lynn Ban, a cast member of Netflix’s “Bling Empire: New York,” died Monday following a skiing accident in December, her son announced.
“I would like to take the chance to share who my mum really was,” he continued. “She was and always will be my best friend, the best mother to me, and someone who cared for all.”
“She always had a smile on her face even when times were tough during her recovery process,” he wrote. “She was a fighter until the end and is the strongest woman I know. She was the funniest and coolest mum I could ever ask for. She took care of me, my dad, and our entire family throughout her whole life.”
“It didn’t seem that bad at the time and I was able to ski to the bottom.”
A quick checkup by ski patrol paramedics cleared her for a concussion.
“I had a bit of a headache but thought after lunch it would be fine and I could ski again,” she continued. A paramedic told her to go to the hospital for a CAT scan, just to be sure.
The scan revealed a brain bleed and she was airlifted to the trauma hospital, Ban said, sharing a photo of her with half of her head shaved and multiple surgical staples.
“Last thing I remember was being intubated and waking up after an emergency craniotomy with Jett by my side.”
She said she had “a long road of recovery ahead.”
Ban was born in Singapore and had a successful career in the fashion industry, working in New York, London, and Paris. Her eponymous jewelry line became a favorite among celebrities, from Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Billie Eilish to Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar.
In 2023, she appeared in “Bling Empire: New York,” a spinoff of Netflix’s “Bling Empire” series. The show follows a group of wealthy Asian American socialites in New York City.
Ban was 52 years old.
“Although she may be gone now, I will do everything I can to make sure she is never forgotten and for her life to be celebrated as it deserves to be. As a final message to my mum, I would just like to say that I will miss you forever and to end in something she always told me ‘I love you more than life itself’ mum,” Sebastian wrote.
“I won't forget so many wonderful things about your mother,” Ban’s co-star Dorothy Wang commented. “She was a true badass yet the kindest ray of light at the same time.”
“Yes she loved her fashion and her looks, but what truly mattered most to her was always you and your father, her tribe.”
