A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employee was killed in a series of violent attacks in Georgia earlier this week.
Lauren Bullis, 40, served in multiple roles at DHS's Office of the Inspector General. She was shot and stabbed to death while walking her dog in Atlanta on April 13. The suspect, 26-year-old Olaolukitan Adon Abel, was naturalized in 2022 despite a lengthy criminal history.
"He possesses a prior criminal record that includes convictions for sexual battery, battery against a police officer, obstruction, and assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and now stands accused of murdering @DHSgov employee Lauren Bullis by shooting and stabbing her while she walked her dog."
The first attack occurred around 12:50 a.m., when DeKalb County police found an adult woman with multiple gunshot wounds on Wesley Chapel Road. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died, officials said. Her identity has not been released.
Less than two hours later, a 49-year-old man was shot multiple times while sleeping outside a shopping center in Brookhaven. Police said the man was homeless, and had been sleeping in front of closed businesses at Cherokee Plaza when he was shot.
Officers responded around 1:59 a.m. and found the man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
The violence continued hours later in a residential neighborhood. At about 6:50 a.m., officers responded to Battle Forest Drive, where they found 40-year-old Lauren Bullis with multiple gunshot and stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"These acts of pure evil have devastated our Department and my prayers are with the families of the victims," Mullin said.
Investigators said Abel was taken into custody in Troup County without incident following coordination among multiple law enforcement agencies. He is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony related to the Brookhaven shooting, and two counts of malice murder in DeKalb County.
Court records show a man named "Adon Olaolukitan," whose birthday is the same as Abel's, has a previous conviction on four counts of sexual battery, to which he plead guilty in June 2025.
Bullis served in the DHS Office of the Inspector General as an auditor in the Office of Audits and as a team leader in the Office of Innovation. In a separate post on X, the Department remembered her as a dedicated public servant.
"Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lauren was a bright spot for so many of the DHS community. She brought warmth, kindness, and a genuine sense of care to her colleagues each day. This horrific incident is a devastating loss for the entire DHS community."
