Every time you go to the supermarket, you probably come across calorie numbers on food labels. The calorie was originally used as a unit of measurement for stored heat in the 1800s and later popularised for weight loss programmes. However, not all calories are equal with the amount of energy you absorb depending on the food type you eat. NTD spoke with dietitian Kirsty Wood.
