An energy shortage is hitting Northern China hard this winter. Earlier this week, one of China's northernmost cities garnered public attention. A heating company in Hegang city issued a notice, saying it would stop providing heating services on Jan. 5, citing high coal prices. The company said that it suffered a loss of $1.1 million last year, and that local authorities didn't help with subsidies.
