This Sunday marks the 26th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, which has evolved into one of the most controversial and underreported campaigns of religious persecution in recent history. This year, renewed attention is being drawn to the issue by a sweeping documentary series “Ironclad Irrefutable Evidence,” produced by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG).
The 32-episode series, the results of more than 10 years of investigation, lays out what its producers call incontrovertible evidence of state-sanctioned organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners across China. The entire series can be viewed here.

A Documentary Series Unveils a Decade of Investigation

“Ironclad Irrefutable Evidence” was released in Chinese and English to provide a systematic, episode-by-episode account of how the CCP has orchestrated the harvesting of organs from living practitioners of Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, since 1999.

According to WOIPFG, the series compiles testimony, secretly recorded phone calls, and analyses implicating some of the highest levels of the regime and military leadership.

Episodes 23 through 26, for example, focus on documented evidence that former party leader Jiang Zemin issued orders for live organ harvesting, implicating five members of the Politburo Standing Committee, the Central Military Commission, the General Logistics Department of the People’s Liberation Army, and heads of hospitals nationwide, according to the investigative team at WOIPFG.

The collected recordings, reports, and video evidence also draw from 45 presidents, directors, and physicians across 41 Chinese hospitals, as well as firsthand testimony from an armed policeman who was a witness to the process of live organ extraction.

Eyewitness Accounts and Systematic Investigations

The series opens with a harrowing eyewitness account from an armed guard who said he observed two military doctors extracting vital organs without anesthesia from a Falun Gong practitioner, a middle school teacher detained for her beliefs. Before her death, she endured a month of torture and abuse, according to episode 1.

Further testimony described how hospitals operated a system where Falun Gong practitioners could be targeted, kidnapped, and sent to secret detention facilities in exchange for monetary rewards. Phone investigations documented in later episodes recorded medical professionals discussing brisk transplant schedules, with some operations able to procure matching organs in as little as one week.

WOIPFG’s investigators also posed as Chinese officials during their research, which allowed them to question doctors and hospital administrators directly. The responses indicated, according to WOIPFG’s episode 4, that multiple hospitals had not only used organs from Falun Gong practitioners in transplants, but routinely scheduled procedures within days—if not hours—of request.

“We might have [the organ] tomorrow,” one hospital director is recorded as saying, according to the WOIPFG investigation.

Evidence of a 'Living Human Organ Bank'

Episodes 6 through 18 of the series examine China’s rapid growth in organ transplantation after the onset of the persecution in 1999. Official numbers cited in WOIPFG’s findings show that national liver transplant cases soared from just 78 over the eight years prior to 1999, to more than 15,000 in the seven years that followed—an increase WOIPFG argues would be impossible without a substantial population of involuntary donors.

Particularly striking are statistics on emergency liver transplants: more than a quarter of such operations reportedly took place within 72 hours of hospital admission, and some surgical teams performed up to 24 transplants in a single day, raising serious questions about the source and availability of organs.

Additional episodes point to papers authored by Chinese transplant doctors, which reference dozens of cases suspected to involve live organ harvesting. Practitioners in custody, the series claims, were subjected to unexplained blood testing consistent with forming a live donor database.

The Broader Scope: From Experiments to Exhibitions

Later episodes delve into further abuses. Falun Gong practitioners were reportedly subjected not only to organ harvesting but also to psychological and pharmacological experiments, sometimes in secret facilities referred to as “concentration camps.” The documentary also alleges that bodies of murdered practitioners have been turned into plastinated specimens for public exhibit, heightening the call for international scrutiny.
A particularly chilling episode references a report by Japanese commentator Ushio Sugawara, who relayed that tendons from the limbs of living donors were severed to keep the organs relaxed before extraction, a practice that underscores the brutality of the ongoing abuses.

Large-Scale, State-Run System

By June 2020, WOIPFG had published 730 telephone recordings and evidence implicating 891 hospitals and more than 9,500 individual surgeons, covering both military and civilian hospitals, as complicit in or aware of the practice.
WOIPFG’s investigation concluded that political and legal agencies, including the so-called “610 Office”—an extra-legal security body created to coordinate the suppression of Falun Gong—worked in tandem with the national judiciary, military, and public security networks to facilitate the industry.

Global Echoes and Calls to Action

The gravity of these allegations is echoed in public statements by U.S. lawmakers and international experts. “Forced organ harvesting is an atrocity reminiscent of the Nazis, and it’s happening tens of thousands of times every year,” Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) told The Epoch Times, citing the findings of the China Tribunal, an independent body which concluded in 2019 that detained Falun Gong practitioners constitute the main source of organs used in Chinese transplants.

Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives to sanction all individuals involved in organ harvesting. Smith, who sponsored the “Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act of 2023,” stated, “No more slaps on the wrists of Xi Jinping. He needs to be held to account.”

“We need a robust effort on sanctioning Xi Jinping’s horrific behavior,” he added. The bill is still pending before the Senate.

In March of this year, the FBI arrested two individuals accused of running a clandestine Chinese police outpost in New York, aimed at harassing and repressing Falun Gong practitioners on American soil, according to Smith’s remarks.

Falsified Narratives

In addition to investigating organ harvesting, WOIPFG scrutinized incidents used by the CCP to justify the persecution of Falun Gong, most notably the purported “Tiananmen Square self-immolation.” According to WOIPFG’s findings, analyzed in collaboration with upholdjustice.org, the incident was a staged hoax intended to frame the spiritual movement and inflame public opinion against its practitioners.
Forensic voice analysis, ambiguities in hospital records, peculiarities in the emergency response timeline, and video evidence revealed inconsistencies, supporting WOIPFG’s assertion that the immolation event was orchestrated and not a genuine act of Falun Gong adherents.

A Call for Justice

With the anniversary of the persecution approaching, WOIPFG’s investigation and the “Ironclad Irrefutable Evidence” series seek to focus international outrage and pressure on the CCP. According to WOIPFG, the full weight of evidence now available should serve as a rallying cry to “choose justice and conscience” and to ensure that crimes of this scale do not remain hidden or unpunished.
