Firefighters attempted to put out a large 'firenado' in Bilecik, Turkey, as evidenced by a video released on Monday by Turkey's forestry ministry.

Large plumes of smoke could be seen spiralling up into the sky as firefighters doused the flames with a water hose.

The location and date when the video was filmed could not be independently verified.

Hundreds of wildfires have broken out across Turkey this summer, forcing tens of thousands of people to temporarily evacuate their homes. Two people were killed by the wildfires in the western province of Izmir this month.

Greece and other Mediterranean countries are in an area dubbed "a wildfire hotspot" by scientists, with blazes common during hot and dry summers.
