A Florida mother is facing felony charges after allegedly starting a fire in her Miami home before pouring melted wax on her two daughters—incidents she recorded and posted to her Instagram account, according to court documents.
Meliza Campos-Sanchez, 26, was taken into custody on Monday and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm, two counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, and first-degree arson, all felonies, case records viewed by NTD show.
The charges stem from two separate incidents the previous day, when fire crews and the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office were called to Campos-Sanchez's residence for a report of a fire in her kitchen, according to an arrest affidavit. Officials said the fire was determined to have been "intentionally set by an open flame held to ignitable liquids and combustible materials."
During their investigation, officials learned Campos-Sanchez's daughters, ages 3 and 6, were in the laundry room near the kitchen and saw their mother set fire to the clothes on the kitchen floor before using a bowl of water to extinguish the flames.
Per court documents, authorities discovered Campos-Sanchez had posted a video to her Instagram account showing her setting the fire. In the clip, she appears to throw two black articles of clothing onto the floor before pouring melted candle wax on her chest and dancing. The video then appears to show her spraying the clothing with a liquid and igniting them with a wand lighter as flames erupt.
"Afterwards, [the eldest daughter] stated that her mother brought her and her sister into the kitchen and began pouring what she describes as 'hot water or agua' from the lit candles (melted candle wax) on herself and her sister," the affidavit reads.
A second video posted to Campos-Sanchez's Instagram page appears to show her using a lit candle to pour melted wax into her own palm and that of her youngest daughter.
Campos-Sanchez's husband, Yusniel Cue, told officials at the scene that he and his wife had been experiencing marital problems and that he had been staying with his parents for the past week while she remained in the home with their two daughters.
Cue said he learned of the incident after one of Campos-Sanchez's friends called him about the Instagram videos and urged him to call the police.
