John Wesley, versatile stage, film, and television actor, known for his role as Dr. Hoover on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” has passed away at the age of 72.
Wesley’s family confirmed his death was due to complications from a long fight with multiple Myeloma, reported Variety.
Wesley, who played Dr. Hoover on the sitcom, also appeared in a number of other TV shows and films.
Wesley had over 100 credits, which included “Missing in Action,” “Big Fish,” “Stop, Or My Mom Will Shoot,” “Always Outnumbered,” and “Martin.”
According to Deadline Hollywood, he had worked alongside such actors as Denzel Washington, Albert Finney, Robert Guillaume, Barbra Streisand, Tim Burton, James Earl Jones, and Morgan Freeman, among many others.
He had cameo appearances on “Frasier,” “Benson,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” “The Jefferson’s,” and more.
Wesley’s manager, Gerry Pass, told Variety, “John Wesley was a gift to the world, for his kindness and grace are immortalized in his works of theatre, TV and film. I am heartbroken to have lost a dear friend today.”
Wesley was reportedly survived by his wife, Jenny Houston, and daughters, Kimiko Kamiel Houston and Kinshasha Houston. He is also survived by his mother, Hazel Baskin, and stepson, Kyler Richie.
