Frito-Lay recalled select bags of its Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle flavored potato chips earlier this week over concerns the product may contain an undeclared milk allergen.

The company said in a statement Tuesday that a limited number of eight-ounce bags were being pulled because they may include jalapeño-flavored potato chips instead, which feature whey as an ingredient.
"Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product," the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shared in the recall alert. "This product is safe to consume for anyone who does not have a dairy allergy or sensitivity to milk."
According to the Mayo Clinic, a milk allergy can trigger a range of symptoms, including hives, wheezing, vomiting, and digestive issues. In severe cases, reactions may cause anaphylaxis, which can constrict airways and drastically lower blood pressure, requiring immediate medical attention.

The FDA said no allergic reactions have been reported in connection with the recall so far, noting that Frito-Lay identified the problem after a customer alerted the company about the mislabeled bags.

The affected potato chips may have been shipped out to retailers as early as Jan. 15 and were sold in various grocery, convenience, and drug stores, among other retailers, in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The recalled chip bags feature a UPC number of 0 28400 761772, a "guaranteed fresh" date of April 21, 2026, and one of the following manufacturing codes: 38U301414 or 48U101514.

No other Miss Vickie’s products or flavors are included in the recall, the FDA noted.

The agency said customers who are allergic or have a sensitivity to milk should not consume the spicy dill pickle-flavored chips and should discard them immediately.

Anyone with questions about the recent recall can call the company's customer service line at (877) 984-2543 or visit the website of Miss Vickie’s for more information.

Frito-Lay has issued several recalls of its most popular chip brands over the years due to undeclared milk allergens, including batches of Ruffles Original Potato Chips and Lay’s Lightly Salted Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips.
In March 2025, the company pulled more than 1,000 bags of 13-ounce bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips for potentially containing nacho cheese tortilla chips.

The recalled Tostitos products were sold across more than a dozen states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
