A New York-based grocer has recalled a specialty lactation granola sold nationwide through Amazon and its own website after learning the product could be contaminated with Salmonella.
The product carries UPC number 850035324554 and was sold both on thehamptongrocers.com website and through other online retailers, including Amazon, between Oct. 21, 2025, and Aug. 12, 2026.
Source of Contamination Traced to Supplier
The company said it discovered the potential contamination after an ingredient supplier reported that a sample of one of its products tested positive for Salmonella. The tainted ingredient, organic moringa powder, is also used in the Lacnola Lactation Granola. The Hampton Grocer has since suspended production of the granola while it and the FDA investigate the source of the contamination.
Health Risks Tied to Salmonella
Salmonella is the most common cause of bacterial food poisoning in the United States, sickening more than a million people annually, according to information from the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms typically appear within a few hours to a few days of exposure and can include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and headache. Most cases resolve on their own within three to seven days, though people at higher risk of complications—including those over 65, children under 5, and individuals with weakened immune systems or sickle cell disease—may require antibiotic treatment.
What Consumers Should Do
The Hampton Grocer is urging anyone who purchased the 8-ounce Lacnola Lactation Granola pouches to discard the product and contact their place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can reach the company at (201) 820-8789 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST, Tuesday through Thursday. Most Salmonella cases stem from raw or undercooked food and can be prevented through basic hygiene, including frequent handwashing and proper food handling practices.
