Idris Elba is married. In a secret ceremony, the 46-year-old married Sabrina Dhowre in Morocco on Friday.
As per the British Vogue, the secret wedding took place at the Ksar Char Bagh hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Dhowre wore a stunning white off-the-shoulder gown by Vera Wang while Elba wore a custom suit by Ozwald Boateng, according to a British Vogue Instagram post.
While the event might have been secret, the couple went all-out for the occasion.
“There was a huge festive party with camels and fire dancers and dancing,” a source told People magazine.
Dhowre had previously hinted at the approaching wedding when she posted photos of herself and her bridesmaids celebrating her bachelorette party at Amangiri Resort at Canyon Point, Utah.
“Had the most amazing weekend with the most amazing people. I love you all so much,” she captioned one of the images. She also included the hashtag for her couple name with Elba, #Idrina.
The two met while filming Elba’s thriller “The Mountain Between Us” in 2017. The film starred Kate Winslet opposite Elba and was filmed in Canada. According to the official synopsis of the film, Oscar winner Winslet and Golden Globe winner Elba played two strangers desperate to survive a plane crash on a remote snow-covered mountain, according to IMDb.
As Miss Vancouver 2014, Dhowre was in Canada at the time of the filming and ended up falling for Elba.
Dhowre spoke about their love story to People magazine’s Jess Cagle in an interview. “Falling in love while making a movie about falling in love is pretty special,” she said.
After they dated for a year, in 2018, Elba proposed to Dhowre at the Rio Cinema in London, during the premiere of his film, Yardie.
The proposal went viral when someone posted it online. Elba laughed about how he hadn’t planned for it to go viral.
“I didn’t expect it to quite make the British news and American news and Japanese news, for that matter,” he previously told People magazine. “It was quite a public affair. But it really wasn’t meant to be on the news.”
Following the engagement, Elba told People magazine that proposing to Dhowre “was the most nerve-wracking thing for me ever.” However, he added that “in terms of wanting to make someone special feel super special and feel my love, that was pretty romantic for me.”
Elba also disclosed to People magazine the qualities in Dhowre that made him realize she was “the one.”
“She makes me laugh and we share common goals. She makes me happy,” he told the magazine. “She makes me celebrate my successes and when I’m not too sure about stuff, she makes me think.”
