Jonathan Joss, the voice behind John Redcorn in the animated series “King of the Hill,” was shot and killed Sunday evening outside his fire-damaged home in south San Antonio, Texas, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
The 59-year-old actor, also known for his roles in “Parks and Recreation” and “Tulsa King,” died at the scene despite officers’ efforts to save him.
San Antonio police responded to a shooting in progress at 7:02 p.m. Sunday at 200 Dorsey Drive, where they found Joss wounded near the street, according to a preliminary incident report obtained by NTD News.
Officers attempted lifesaving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Joss was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police detained 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja at the location. Ceja was later transported to police headquarters and booked on a murder charge, according to police spokesperson Camelia Juarez.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details about what prompted the shooting.
Court records do not list an attorney for Ceja, who is being held at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
The house, built by his father in 1957, was completely destroyed, leaving Joss without possessions or a vehicle and facing unemployment.
The fundraising campaign, created in January, aimed to help him secure housing and replace essential items lost in the blaze. The page had raised over $12,000 with a goal of $15,000.
Joss, who grew up in San Antonio, was best known for his portrayal of John Redcorn on “King of the Hill,” which aired from 1997 to 2008 and is set for a revival in August. He also appeared as Chief Ken Hotate in “Parks and Recreation” and had a recurring role in the series “Tulsa King” in 2022.
Just days before his death, Joss participated in events in Austin related to the upcoming “King of the Hill” reboot and posted a video on Instagram saying he looked forward to the show’s return.
“The fans get to revisit ‘King of the Hill’ again, which I think is an amazing thing because it’s a great show,” Joss said in the video, noting he had already completed voice work for four episodes of the revival.
The investigation into Joss’s killing is ongoing, according to San Antonio police.
