Deputies responded to a call for service just before 8 a.m. at 352 Brooks Road. When they arrived, they found several victims who had been shot. One victim was taken to Duke University Hospital, while several others died at the scene.
The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office has been approached for comment.
"There is NO THREAT to the general public, and the event is contained to the above address," investigators wrote in their post.
Responding agencies include the SBI, State Highway Patrol, Prospect Hill Fire Department, Caswell County EMS, and the Person County Sheriff's Office.
An earlier Facebook post from the SBI said Caswell County deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol had responded immediately after the shooting was reported. The sheriff's office had said it was still working to gather evidence on what had happened. Even in that initial update, authorities stressed that there was no danger to people outside the residence.
In a later, more detailed update, the SBI reaffirmed that deputies had discovered multiple shooting victims at the Brooks Road address and that one person had been hospitalized at Duke University Hospital while several others were confirmed dead. The agency listed off other agencies involved in the investigation, adding Caswell County Emergency Management and Caswell County 911 dispatch alongside the SBI, the state Highway Patrol, the Prospect Hill Fire Department, Caswell County EMS and the Person County Sheriff's Office.
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office is serving as the lead agency overseeing the investigation, with the other departments and units providing support. Authorities have not publicly identified the victims or offered a motive for the shooting as of Wednesday. Both the sheriff's office and the SBI said they would continue to release information as it becomes available through additional press releases as well as updates posted to their official social media accounts.
No further details on the circumstances leading up to the shooting were noted by either agency. NTD News has contacted both agencies requesting further details.
