Salad and Go will permanently close its remaining 70 restaurants after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, ending a 13-year run for the drive-thru chain known for affordable salads and wraps.
Salad and Go’s parent company, And Go Concepts LLC, filed for Chapter 11 protection on Aug. 4 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. The company plans to use the bankruptcy process to sell its remaining assets and meet its obligations as it shuts down.
Salad and Go opened its first restaurant in Gilbert, Arizona, in 2013 as an alternative to traditional fast food. Its small drive-thru restaurants served made-to-order salads, wraps, breakfast burritos and bowls, soups, lemonade, and tea.
The chain eventually grew to 146 locations across Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and Oklahoma and reached a reported valuation of about $1.1 billion in 2022. Its rapid expansion, however, became a major source of financial problems.
Beginning in 2021, Salad and Go expanded in Texas and Oklahoma and invested about $72.5 million in a food production facility in Garland, Texas. Court filings said some new restaurants were difficult for drivers to see or access, while the company opened locations faster than it could build customer awareness. The Garland facility also carried annual overhead costs of $15 million to $20 million.
Salad and Go closed about 41 underperforming restaurants in September 2025, then withdrew from Texas and Oklahoma in January. The remaining Arizona and Nevada restaurants were roughly breaking even at the store level, but corporate expenses and rent on closed properties continued to drain the company’s cash.
The company also cited rising gasoline prices, reduced consumer spending, and declining confidence in the salad industry following a July Cyclospora outbreak. However, Salad and Go said it was not connected to the outbreak.
The filing states that competitors reported a 3.1 percent and 11.5 percent decrease due to the outbreak linked to lettuce, and a drop in sales for a "fast-casual dining industry, which operates on very tight margins, a drop in sales by that percentage is devastating."
"To everyone who was ever a part of the Salad and Go journey with us, we thank you. To everyone joining us at Angie’s…We’re just getting started," the Christofellises's said. "If you believe that better food should cost less - not more - we’d love for you to help us prove that this mission still matters."
