Linkin Park fans all over the world are coordinating a massive worldwide memorial to Chester Bennington and the band is all for it.
Bennington was the star frontman and soul of the band. He commited suicide earlier this month, shocking millions of fans who admired his music.
Bennington’s family announced that they will conduct a private memorial. Respectful of the family’s wishes, the fans are instead using social media and Google Docs to plan hundreds of tributes for their beloved star in cities all over the world.
Benington’s bandmate Mike Shinoda tweeted a link to the list of the memorials planned in cities spanning the six continents, including New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Paris, Copenhagen, Tokyo, and beyond.
As of Saturday morning, July 29, there were 237 cities planning memorials, including 80 cities in North America, 181 cities in Europe, 36 cities in South and Central America, and 40 cities in Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Middle East.
Some of the memorials will be held at venues where the band was scheduled to perform before canceling its tour in light of Bennington’s tragic death.
The fan collective set up a central document with lists of cities in North America, South and Central America, Europe, and more.
They are asking fans who would like to set up a memorial in their cities to send a Twitter message with the #LPMemorial hashtag, so that the info can be added to the main roster.
Linkin Park band members have not announced if they will be attending any of the memorials.
On Friday, Bennington’s wife released a statement about his death.
“One week ago, I lost my soulmate and my children lost their hero—their Daddy. We had a fairytale life and now it has turned into some sick Shakespearean tragedy,” Talinda Bennington wrote in a statement obtained by Rolling Stone.
