Abdullah Hayek, a Washington-based Middle East analyst with Young Voices, and Tom Sauer, a former Navy officer and founder of The MacArthur Group, joined a panel discussion with NTD.

The panel discussed President Donald Trump’s national security strategy in putting a blockade on Iran through the Strait of Hormuz.

Sauer says China is the biggest enduring threat to the United States, and the operation in Iran is, in truth, about rebalancing U.S. power to make the Western Hemisphere a fortress.

Sauer said eventually, the Gulf Coast of the United States will become the world’s gas station of reliability and choice, and that China will have to get its oil from somewhere other than Iran.

The panel also discussed how American energy independence has enabled the United States to implement this blockade, the U.S. interest in maintaining the economies of its Arab allies, and the methods the United States can use to prevent Iran from making a nuclear weapon.
