Astronaut and politician John Glenn was interred on Thursday, April 6 at Arlington National Cemetery.
Glenn started his flying career as a successful fighter pilot in World War II and the Korean War. He flew 149 missions and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross six times.
Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth, completing three orbits in the Friendship 7 space capsule in February 1962. He was the third American in space, and the fifth human.
He retired from NASA to try politics in 1964. After three failed runs he was elected to the Senate in 1974. He served three terms as senator for Ohio.
Glenn was 95 when he died of multiple medical issues.
