Certain Costco shoppers received letters this week about a popular soda water in Louisiana and Texas that had been recalled.

Coca-Cola, which bottles Topo Chico Sparkling Mineral Water, recalled the brand on June 2 due to the possibility of contamination with pseudomonas, which can be found naturally in water sources, including mineral water, according to a June 2 letter addressing Costco shoppers.

The recall applies to 16.9 fluid ounce bottles of the mineral water, which are typically sold in packs of 18 in Costco and Sam’s Club.

“The health consequences of consuming mineral water with the presence of pseudomonas aeruginosa is considered to be very low in healthy individuals with potential minor health consequences if consumed by individuals with weakened immune systems,” the letter states.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) describes pseudomonas aeruginosa as a common bacteria often found in water and soil, and some strains as being multidrug-resistant.

All impacted products have been removed from store shelves and no illnesses have been reported, according to a Coca-Cola spokesperson.

Any consumer who purchased product with lot numbers 11A2543, 12A2543, or 13A2541 may return it to the place of purchase for exchange or refund, or can call Coca-Cola at 1-800-GET-COKE.

“The quality and safety of our products is our top priority,” the Coca-Cola spokesperson told NTD in June 5 email. “All impacted product has been removed from store shelves at the approximate 40 retail locations across Arizona, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas."

Costco did not respond to requests for comment.

A Sam’s Club spokesperson told NTD in a statement: “The health and safety of our members is always a top priority. We implemented a sales restriction and removed this product from impacted Sam’s Club locations. Members who have this should not consume it. They should discard it and visit any Sam’s Club location for a refund.”

According to Coca-Cola's website, Topo Chico has been bottled at its Monterrey, Mexico source since 1895.

Bacterial Recalls

This isn't the first bacterial recall in 2025. Last week, there was a growing outbreak of salmonella infections linked to cucumbers that sickened some 45 people in 18 states. Federal health officials said 16 required treatment at a hospital.
The cucumbers were grown by Florida-based Bedner Growers Inc. and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. The CDC website noted that the cucumbers had been transported to restaurants, grocery stores, hospitals, and cruise ships between April 29 and May 19.

The recalled "supers," "selects," or "plains" cucumbers were sold both individually and in smaller packages.

On April 15, Optimal Carnivore announced on its website that it was recalling Bone & Joint Restore Dietary Supplement (Lot No. 1224064) due to potential salmonella contamination.

WebMD defines salmonella as a bacterium that causes diarrhea, a fever, upset stomach, and cramping and can cause infection through contaminated food items or touching an animal that has it.
