SAN FRANCISCO—A Republican running against Nancy Pelosi said she aims to bring patriotism back to the country.
DeAnna Lorraine is running for congress for California’s 12th congressional district.
Her campaign slogan is “God, family, and country.” She said those are values America has been missing for a long time.
“We need better morals, we need a family structure—strong families, because strong families create a strong America. And we need to bring back patriotism,” said Lorraine.
She’s taking it one step at a time in San Francisco. On Monday, she organized a ‘San Francisco City Day of Action’ by inviting all kinds of people to clean up the streets. She says this should be a bipartisan issue, unaffiliated to political views. She said she also invited Nancy Pelosi, but said she did not come to the clean-up event.

“It really starts with us. You know, we could wait until leadership, until government steps in and fixes the problem for us… So we don’t want to wait for people, we want to just organize a group of people and do it ourselves, and that’s what I am doing today,” said Lorraine.
She and her group of volunteers met up at City Hall, and cleaned their way through the Tenderloin district, a neighborhood known for especially dirty streets.
“So far, definitely, the majority of things that I’ve picked up are cigarette butts. We literally starting walking 2 minutes ago,” said Alejandro Gonzalez, a volunteer.
They made a pit stop to clean up a parking lot in between a residence and a veteran’s building that was littered with trash.
They found plastic scraps, bottles, cans, and even needles in that area.
After about half an hour, the results showed their accomplishment.
Nikka Piterman, a candidate running against Barbara Lee for District 13 in the East Bay, also spent his Monday morning with Lorraine’s team.
“I really support Lorraine’s cause. I think that San Francisco has gotten dirtier over my lifetime and … have every day people just come together and do their best effort to clean it up is inspiring to me, I think,” said Piterman. “I think we got to do this across the country, really.”
The general election is on November 5 this year, and the presidential primary election is on March 3, 2020.
