“It was an incredible performance for Shen Yun to be back in Houston for the 18th year and the 20th year that the performance has been going on around our country,” Mr. Pollard said. “It’s a blessing to have it back in Houston, and the performers did an excellent job.”
“It’s world-class. Quite frankly, I was actually watching all the synchronization between all of them, and it’s just to the millisecond, almost, we can say. So it’s impressive. It’s fantastic. What these guys are capable of doing is world-class,” said Anis Khelidj, an engineer in the petroleum industry.
Dr. Wasyl Szeremeta, a pediatric ENT surgeon, said, “I thought it was a fabulous show. Very talented performers, dancing with passion and excitement, showing the true richness of China and its heritage.”
“The orchestra was great. All of the different sounds and the music that they were able to provide while the dancers were performing went perfect,” Mr. Pollard said. “But a big shout out goes to the M.C.s as well. They really explained what we were watching ... and I thought it was just excellent all around.”
“The music is great. I really enjoy the mix of the Western orchestra as well as the traditional Chinese instruments. So that’s really very interesting, very unique for me,” said Efrain Perez, a cloud engineer at Verizon.
Theatergoers also commented on the spiritual themes present throughout the performance.
Mr. Pollard said, “It was more than just dancing. It was about us as human beings having traditional values, making sure that we understand our greater purpose. And the dancers really reflected that.”
“It resonates with our Christian tradition in the United States and the rest of the world, where the power and goodness comes from God and not from the government. And I think that’s probably one of the reasons why this isn’t shown in China,” Dr. Szeremeta said.
Angelica Amaro, a surgical technologist, said, “Their emotions definitely impact me. I can feel it even though, wherever our seats are, it can definitely just reflect their emotions. I can feel every single one of them and their movements, even though, wherever we are, it’s very smooth too. It’s very elegant. I love it.”
“Seeing it on videos or hearing about it does not do it justice,” Mr. Pollard said. “You have to come and see it with your own eyes, and I guarantee you, you won’t be disappointed.”
