Dedicated to reviving a culture once nearly lost, Shen Yun Performing Arts uses classical Chinese dance, a live orchestra, and an immersive backdrop to tell the stories of ancient Chinese civilization. Audiences experienced one of their performances in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on May 10.

“Fantastic, exciting, and at the same time it’s very relaxing. The music is sensational,” said Danileia Rizzi Mourao, a company managing partner. “The orchestra is really sensational. At the same time, it makes you feel like you're not just in the show, it puts you in another world.”

“I work with shows involved with the theatrical part too, and this is very beautiful! The way they use fabrics, colors, and tell the history of China,” said Lívia Trasel, an actress.

“It was beautiful and really amazing. Also nice was the interaction between the dancers and this visual 3D backdrop. It was very good,” said César Augusto Zen Vasconcellos, a professor and author.

“Everything is incredible. They're perfect on stage, and in sync with the orchestra as well. I loved it, I thought they're so precise. Beautiful, it’s perfect,” said Juceni Márcia Pessini, a business owner.

Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values, a heritage that ancient Chinese people believed was divinely inspired. The Chinese Communist Party has tried to uproot traditional culture since taking power in 1949. Theatergoers expressed their appreciation for Shen Yun’s efforts.

“If we could do it, if humanity could follow this path [of faith], we would be much closer to the divine than we are now. But we are getting more and more further away from it, unfortunately,” said Luiz Antonio Ferrari, a business owner. “Right at the moment when it began it had already given me a unique sensation. I’m even getting emotional. These things really touch me.”

“Something that impressed me a lot and that really attracted my attention is the fact that they are reviving [millennia] of Chinese history that seems to have been lost over time. And that seems to me to be a fundamental thing, because history transcends the moment in time,” said Vasconcellos.

“You see that with kindness, which is the central theme of the play, kindness can achieve anything. Not from aggression and other things,” said Gerson Perotti, a business owner.

“I thought it was a great privilege to be able to take part in such a beautiful show which told a good part of China's history,” said Sandra de Almeida Falkenbach, a government employee.

Shen Yun successfully concluded their 2025 world tour on May 11. Its artists bring an all-new program for audiences to enjoy every season, including new dances, music, and stories.
