Shen Yun Performing Arts wrapped up three performances in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on May 10. The New York-based company is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company with a mission to rekindle 5,000 years of ancient Chinese culture through classical dance, music, and an immersive backdrop.

“I found the show to be grand, touching, a feast for the eyes and also warms the heart,” said Júlio Casarin, a lawyer. “It’s a fantastic thing when you see an orchestra of this quality that performs together with those ancient Chinese instruments. It's a fantastic thing.”

“I was amazed at the interactions that exist between [the 3D backdrop and performers]. They go down, disappear, and appear. It’s very beautiful. And the synchronization of the dancers’ movements is perfect,” said Sirlei Stédile, a former council member. “I have no words to describe what we are watching today. Everyone should have the chance to watch a show like this. I am so amazed.”

“It’s wonderful! A perfect integration of all elements, including the digital with the human aspects. Very nice, and really beautiful,” said Pedro Ronaldo Goulart Ribeiro, a lawyer.

Traditional Chinese culture and values find their roots in the divine. Audience members applauded Shen Yun’s efforts to revive an art form that was almost lost under the Chinese Communist Party’s rule. The company cannot perform in China, because the performance shines a light on the brutal persecution of faith by the regime.

“We have unfortunately been faced with many situations today in which we have lost some of our faith. And Shen Yun brings back this hope of truly strengthening this faith, which is very important for us to overcome evil. Because if we don't have this strengthening that Shen Yun brought us in the play, it will be really difficult for us to face evil. Shen Yun brought this to us in such a subtle way, but in a very important way,” said Alexandre Barbosa, a lawyer.

“[The mission] is very important, because whether we like it or not, China today is under a brutal regime and the Chinese people need to have the freedom to express themselves. And art is one of the ways for this to happen,” Mr. Casarin said.

“This fight is between good and evil. And the good always wins, so we have to have faith. We have to seek spirituality and always transcend this evil so that we can overcome it without falling into its traps,” said Lenise Carvalho da Silva, a lawyer.

Some audience members said that Shen Yun is more than just a performance.

“In the flood we faced last year, we are here a year after the flood, so it picks us up. All these emotions, both of joy and a mixture of joy and sadness, but at the same time of peace, return, and of an inner peace that we really need today in the world here. I think that Shen Yun brought this to us in a splendid, inexplicable way,” Mr. Barbosa said.

“[Shen Yun] brought us a renewal and really touched our spiritual side, because it shows the divine, that all beings are divine. And through dance, this was expressed very well, and we were able to feel it. It's very moving,” Ms. da Silva said.

Shen Yun successfully concluded their 2025 world tour on May 11, with performances across major cities worldwide. Every season, its artists bring an all-new program for audiences to enjoy.
