Shen Yun Performing Arts presented Chinese civilization from before communism to audiences in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on May 10. Since 2006, the arts group has toured the world with a mission to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values, which ancient Chinese people believed were inspired by the divine.

“[The performance] was very enriching and we were very happy that this type of show came to our city, too. It’s very beautiful,” said Adriana Barbuzza, an architect. “It's very nice, it brings a lot of tranquility, a lot of peace and at the same time it has a lot of beauty in it. A lot of control of the body as well, it has everything.”

“Looking at the interaction between the technology they put in the background of the stage and the dance, their coordination with it was really interesting,” said Luiz Felipe Osowski, a surgeon.

“They managed to show such an old history in such a lively way that you could almost touch it. It’s very beautiful,” said Andreia Tocchetto Osowski, a psychiatrist.

Dedicated to reviving a culture once nearly lost, Shen Yun uses classical Chinese dance and music to tell stories from ancient China all the way up through modern times. The company also travels with a live orchestra that combines both classical Chinese instruments and Western instruments.

“What caught my attention was that two-string instrument. To think they got all those sounds from just two strings, it's a very special instrument,” said Paulo Herrmann, a company CEO.

“The music is incredible and we see that it is a different kind of music. We can hear that it is not something that is from our [Western] instruments. It’s very beautiful,” said Andreia Tocchetto Osowski.

“I personally liked music a lot, the combination of live music with dance. And the spiritual inspiration was really nice, it was very rewarding,” said Fabiano Priotto Mussi, a lawyer. “I believe it is a very good energy and vibration in the environment. Everything becomes light. We feel at peace.”

Shen Yun has successfully concluded their 2025 world tour on May 11, and will bring an all-new program for audiences to enjoy next season.
