Authorities in Michigan reported they have taken six suspects into custody who are thought to be related to a deadly Monday night shooting.

Officers with the Michigan State Police Department were dispatched around 7 p.m. after calls came in for an apparent shooting at a rural residence on Hill Road in Gaines Township.

Responding officers found one man, identified as 49-year-old David Lee Holmes deceased inside the residence.

Mlive reported Holmes died from multiple gunshot wounds.

While officers were responding to the emergency call, they learned about possible suspects after witnesses described a vehicle that fled the scene shortly after the gunshots.

Police said officers with the Metro Police Authority of Genesee County later managed to locate and stop the vehicle in Swartz Creek, which was carrying five men and one woman.

All six inhabitants of the vehicle were taken to the Genesee County Jail in relation to the fatal shooting for further investigation, Mlive reported.

The suspects’ identities have not been released by authorities.

Investigators said the fatal shooting was caused by a dispute over money.

No additional information was given and police said the suspects have not yet been charged as of Tuesday morning.

Gaines Township is a charter township of Kent County in Michigan, 58 miles from Detroit.
