Pop superstar Taylor Swift announced her upcoming 12th studio album "The Life of a Showgirl" early Tuesday morning, marking her first new release since successfully reclaiming ownership of her entire music catalog.
The announcement came after a countdown timer on Swift's official website reached zero at 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday. While no specific release date has been confirmed, the website indicates that vinyl copies of the album will be available for shipping prior to Oct. 13.
Swift's team orchestrated a carefully planned reveal that began Monday with Taylor Nation, the artist's official marketing division, posting a TikTok slideshow featuring 12 photographs with the caption "Thinking about when she said 'See you next era...'"
Each image showed Swift wearing orange attire, fitting to the album's aesthetic.
The "New Heights" podcast, hosted by Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason Kelce, shared an orange-tinted image with a mysterious silhouette 12 minutes before Taylor Nation's post. Many fans speculated the silhouette belonged to Swift herself.
The podcast confirmed Tuesday that Swift will appear as a guest, with a teaser video showing her retrieving the album from a briefcase.
Swift's episode on "New Heights" will premiere Wednesday at 7 p.m. E.T. and the full stream will be watchable on YouTube. Audio versions will be available across multiple podcasts including Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Audible, Spotify, and Wondery. Episodes typically run between one and two hours long.
Collectors can pre-order a limited vinyl edition in "Portofino orange glitter," keeping with the orange color scheme. A special cassette edition is also available for advance purchase through Swift's website.
"All of the music I've ever made now belongs to me," Swift wrote in her letter. "I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening."
The journey to reclaim her music began after music executive Scooter Braun's acquisition and subsequent sale of her early catalog, which prompted her to launch her ambitious "Taylor's Version" re-recording project.
Swift credited her fanbase for making the catalog purchase possible.
"The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned the Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music," she wrote.
The re-recording project proved successful, with all four released "Taylor's Version" albums debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. These included "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and "Red (Taylor's Version)" in 2021, followed by "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version)" in 2023.
"The Life of a Showgirl" follows last year's "The Tortured Poets Department," which was announced during the 2024 Grammys. The previous album's release coincided with Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour, which generated over $2.2 billion across two years and five continents, establishing it as the highest-grossing tour in history.
The new album is Swift's first original studio release since gaining complete control over her music.
