A teacher was shot by a student at a Texas high school on Monday morning before the student fatally shot himself, in an incident authorities said is no longer an active threat but remains under investigation.
According to a series of updates posted by the Comal County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook, the teacher was transported to a San Antonio hospital following the shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde. Her condition has not been released. The student, identified as a 15-year-old male, died at the scene.

“We know this is incredibly difficult to hear,” the sheriff’s office said. “What we can tell you is this situation is contained, and there is no ongoing threat to students.”

Authorities said deputies were first dispatched to the campus area after reports of gunfire. Earlier updates indicated uncertainty about the suspect’s status, but officials later confirmed there was no active shooter situation and that the campus had been secured.

Sheriff Mark Reynolds said during a press briefing that investigators believe the student shot the teacher before turning the weapon on himself. He added that authorities are working to determine how the firearm was obtained and whether there was any prior connection between the student and the teacher.

The campus, which serves about 250 students, was placed on lockdown shortly after the shooting. Students were transported to nearby Bulverde Middle School for reunification with their families.

Witness accounts described a chaotic scene as the situation unfolded. One student told KSAT that he heard sounds similar to “a table slamming down” followed by screams.
Parents gathered at the reunification site, forming long lines as they waited to pick up their children. Some expressed concern about the emotional toll of the incident.

Student Community

Sarah Valdez, a parent of a freshman, said the reality of the situation is sad for students to face.

“We got an alert from Comal ISD that the school is on lockdown, and I called my son, even though I knew they’re not supposed to using phones,” she said.

Another parent, Jesse Lopez, said it would be difficult for his daughter to return to school following the shooting.

“That’s going to be hard to do because, for one, she has autism, and she’ll be afraid to go back, she’ll be real afraid to go back,” Lopez said.

Officials said the situation was contained quickly, with multiple law enforcement agencies responding. The school will remain closed Tuesday, and counseling services will be made available to students and families.

“We’re trying to collect as much information as we can from witnesses,” Reynolds said.
