Friends and family are mourning three people who died in a deadly crash on the Interstate 30 (I-30) in Dallas, Texas, on April 17.
The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT’s) Dallas district office confirmed that two men and a woman, who were traveling around 2:20 a.m. local time near Lawnview Avenue in the city’s east, died after their Cadillac collided with an 18-wheeler truck in a fiery crash.
“All lanes of EB I-30 are closed at Dolphin due to a fatal crash,” TxDOT Dallas district said in a Twitter post, dated April 17. “The high occupancy vehicle lanes are also closed. The lanes are expected to be closed past the morning rush hour.”

Dallas County Sheriff’s Department deputies suspect the Cadillac driver was speeding and struck the center median strip before crashing into the truck, which lost control, hit a concrete barrier, and overturned. The Cadillac also hit the concrete barrier and caught on fire, according to The Dallas Morning News.

About six hours after announcing the road closure, TxDOT confirmed said that half of the lanes on the I-30 had been reopen after fuel leaking from the truck had been cleaned up and tow trucks called in to remove the crashed vehicles at about 6 a.m.
“Two left lanes of EB I-30 are now open to traffic following a fatal crash at Dolphin Road early this morning,” TxDOT Dallas district said in a Twitter post dated April 17. “The EB Lawnview entrance ramp is also closed. The two right lanes of EB I-30 are expected to remain closed for several hours. Expect delays.”

Just four days earlier, another crash involving an 18-wheeler in western Fort Worth closed all eastbound lanes on the I-30.
“All lanes are forced to exit Spur 580 / Camp Bowie W. Blvd approximately 3 miles east of the I-30 / I-20 split,” DFW Scanner said in a public statement. “Reports indicate an 18 wheeler hit a wall. Expect heavy delays in this area.”
