President Donald Trump lambasted the United Kingdom ambassador to the United States and criticized British Prime Minister Theresa May for how she’s handled the ambassador since correspondence from him leaked.

“The wacky Ambassador that the U.K. foisted upon the United States is not someone we are thrilled with, a very stupid guy. He should speak to his country, and Prime Minister May, about their failed Brexit negotiation, and not be upset with my criticism of how badly it was handled,” Trump wrote on Twitter on July 9.

Trump said he gave direction to May on how to handle Brexit, the movement to leave the European Union, but she bungled it.

“I told @theresa_may how to do that deal, but she went her own foolish way-was unable to get it done. A disaster! I don’t know the Ambassador but have been told he is a pompous fool. Tell him the USA now has the best Economy & Military anywhere in the World, by far and they are both only getting bigger, better and stronger…..Thank you, Mr. President!” he added.

The latest barrage came after May defended the ambassador, Kim Darroch, following the leaking of correspondence showing Darroch disparaging the Trump administration.

A spokesman for May said that she has “full faith” in Darroch, reported the left-leaning BBC website.

The ambassador’s job is “to provide honest and unvarnished opinions” but May “does not agree with the assessment,” he said.

“The leak is absolutely unacceptable and, as you would expect, contact has been made with the Trump administration setting out our view that we believe that it is unacceptable,” he said.

The Cabinet Office has launched an investigation into the matter, he added.

According to the left-leaning CBS, the leaked cables showed Darroch claiming Trump “radiates insecurity” and that his team at the British Embassy in Washington “don’t really believe Trump’s administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; … less diplomatically clumsy and inept.”

Trump’s missives on Tuesday morning followed attacks on Darroch on Monday night.

“I have been very critical about the way the U.K. and Prime Minister Theresa May handled Brexit. What a mess she and her representatives have created. I told her how it should be done, but she decided to go another way,” he started, before stating the United States would not have a relationship with the ambassador any longer.

“I do not know the Ambassador, but he is not liked or well thought of within the U.S. We will no longer deal with him,” Trump wrote.

“The good news for the wonderful United Kingdom is that they will soon have a new Prime Minister. While I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent State Visit last month, it was the Queen who I was most impressed with!”
