President Donald Trump expressed optimism shortly after his six-month physical exam at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday.

"Everything checked out PERFECTLY," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff!"

Trump, 79, did not elaborate on the results of the exam, but the White House typically releases details at some point following presidential checkups.

The president has recently suggested just how healthy he feels despite his age and limited exercise.

He joked on Monday that he feels “literally the same” as he did 50 years ago. “I don’t know why. It’s not because I eat the best foods,” the president said during an Oval Office event.

Trump last week revived the Presidential Physical Fitness Award as part of his push to return an annual physical fitness test to schools nationwide. He joked at the event about his own exercise routine, saying that he works out “like about one minute a day, max.”

After his annual physical exam in April 2025, Trump’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, said that he was “fully fit” to serve as commander in chief and that he was 20 pounds lighter since a 2020 checkup that showed him bordering on obesity. Barbabella at the time credited the president’s well-being to an “active lifestyle.”

Months later, Trump was tested by the White House medical unit for mild swelling in his lower legs, which was later characterized as chronic venous insufficiency, a condition common in older adults that causes blood to pool in veins.

Presidents have wide discretion over what health information they choose to release to the public. Administrations throughout the decades have released parts of presidential physicals, but the White House filters those results and the president must approve what details the public gets to see.

Trump’s health has been the subject of public scrutiny and he said he regretted getting imaging on his heart and abdomen last year because it raised public questions about his health. His physician at the time asked him to undergo either a CT scan or MRI “to definitively rule out any cardiovascular issues” and the results were “perfectly normal and revealed absolutely no abnormalities.”

Trump, who was the oldest person elected U.S. president, will turn 80 years old next month.

His predecessor, President Joe Biden, a Democrat, was 82 when he left office and dropped out of the 2024 presidential race due to widespread concerns about his age and stamina for office.
