President Donald Trump has once again called for the GOP to end the filibuster, suggesting that Democrats will win the midterms and the White House if it's not eliminated.

In a lengthy social media post on Tuesday, Trump suggested the Senate's 60-vote filibuster threshold is putting Republicans at risk in the upcoming elections.

"The Democrats are far more likely to win the Midterms, and the next Presidential Election, if we don’t do the Termination of the Filibuster (The Nuclear Option!), because it will be impossible for Republicans to get Common Sense Policies done with these Crazed Democrat Lunatics being able to block everything by withholding their votes," Trump wrote. "FOR THREE YEARS, NOTHING WILL BE PASSED, AND REPUBLICANS WILL BE BLAMED. Elections, including the Midterms, will be rightfully brutal."

He also said Democrats would end the filibuster themselves if they retake the Senate majority.

If that happens, Democrats will pass statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., which would mean two more states and four more Democratic senators, Trump said.

He also noted that Democrats previously tried to change the 60-vote threshold to pass voting rights, but fell short.

"Remember, Republicans, they are going to end the Filibuster as soon as they get the chance[.] We know this because they already tried, and the only two people who didn’t go along are now out of office," Trump added. "But they have much less chance of WINNING if we have Great Policy Wins after Wins after Wins."

Under current filibuster rules, 60 votes are needed in the Senate to end debate and move to a final vote on most legislation. If that fails and the threshold isn't reached, bills are effectively blocked.

Republicans currently hold a 53–47 majority in the upper chamber.

The GOP-led Senate would get more accomplished if the filibuster is terminated, according to Trump.

The president said the country would have free and fair elections, strong borders, no men in women's sports, major tax and energy cuts, and protection of the Second Amendment.

Trump pushed Republicans to act quickly to end the 60-vote threshold, citing the ongoing federal shutdown, which is now on its 35th day.

"TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER NOW, END THE RIDICULOUS SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY, AND THEN, MOST IMPORTANTLY, PASS EVERY WONDERFUL REPUBLICAN POLICY THAT WE HAVE DREAMT OF, FOR YEARS, BUT NEVER GOTTEN," Trump wrote. "WE WILL BE THE PARTY THAT CANNOT BE BEATEN - THE SMART PARTY!!!"
