The Trump administration is committed to rebuilding American manufacturing, creating jobs, and tackling inflation, according to Vice President J.D. Vance.

Vance praised President Donald Trump for investing in the United States and accused former presidents of outsourcing jobs overseas.

“The reason why China and Mexico were building while the United States was shrinking, it was a simple, simple question,” he said to a cheering crowd. “You had people in Washington who weren't fighting for you.”

Vance gave the remarks on May 18 during a rally in Kansas City, Missouri, while he was visiting a manufacturing facility.

The National Association of Manufacturers estimates that the American manufacturing sector directly employs 12.6 million and Vance credited Trump.

“How is it that we shocked the common expectation by adding 123,000 jobs this last month,” Vance said. “How is it that we've seen the biggest growth in manufacturing employment last quarter that we have seen in this country since Donald J Trump was president the first time? We decided to [support] American businesses and most importantly American workers first.”

Vance also lauded the Working Families Tax Cut in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

The Working Families Tax Cut permanently expanded and doubled the Child Tax Credit, allows car buyers to deduct up to $10,000 for interest paid on car loans for U.S.-assembled vehicles, exempts federal taxes on tips, Social Security income for retirees, and overtime hours for workers.

"That legislation provides the biggest tax cut for working class Missouri that we have ever seen in the history of the United States of America," he said.

The vice president chairs a fraud task force ordered by Trump to identify and prosecute bad actors.

During his speech, Vance condemned alleged fraud in programs like Medicaid and Medicare, including those for autistic children.

“When somebody steals money from a program that’s supposed to benefit autistic school children, that's theft from you and it's also theft from those children who depend on those services,” Vance said.

In referencing theft from programs benefiting autistic children, Vance was referring to a report released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General in January.

The audit alleges that in the state of Maine, at least $45.6 million was paid in improper fee-for-service Medicaid payments for rehabilitative and community support (RCS) services provided to children diagnosed with autism, according to an HHS press release.

Maine’s payments for RCS services allegedly did not fully comply with federal and state requirements.

“If we see a kid who's starving, we don't say you're on your own,” Vance added. “We say we're gonna help you out but that American generosity of spirit depends on having leaders who take care of those kids and who protect your money.”
