Suffolk—The Medical Examiner’s Office in Norfolk has identified the woman’s body that was found in the southern part of Suffolk Tuesday morning as missing Southampton County mother of two Cynthia Carver, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday, March 20.
The sheriff’s office said a citizen discovered her body. Carver’s family has been notified.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office, along with other agencies, are continuing the investigation to determine who is responsible for Carver’s death.
34-year-old Carver was reported missing on Feb. 22; she was last seen on Thomaston Road in Newsoms, Virginia, around 9 p.m. the day before. Authorities say she was also seen running errands in the Norfolk area earlier in the day.

Evidence at Carver’s home on Everett Street in Newsoms suggested she may have been abducted, the FBI said. Officials found a knife on the living room floor of her home, along with several blood stains on the carpet and more blood on the utility room floor.
Investigators said it didn’t appear as if anyone forced their way into the house and that the evidence suggested there was a possible struggle inside the home. They also said Carver was possibly meeting a man at her house that night. Court documents state that relatives overheard her saying to a man over the phone that she would wait up for him on the last day anyone saw her.

During a press conference, detectives said their investigation revealed that a possible suspect vehicle, a silver Chrysler, may have been involved in her disappearance. A vehicle matching that description was seen leaving her home the night of her abduction.
