One person was killed and two others were wounded after shots rang out at a home on the north side of Indianapolis over the weekend, authorities said.

Police responded to a residence on the 4000 block of North Park Avenue just before 1 a.m. on Sunday after receiving a call of shots fired, a public information officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) told NTD via email on Monday.

Upon arrival, officers found an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. She was taken to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Officers were subsequently notified that two additional victims had walked into I.U. Health Methodist Hospital, roughly 3.5 miles away, suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

"Detectives learned those two victims were shot in the 4000 block of N. Park Avenue also," IMPD's spokesperson said.

WTHR NBC 13 reported that a third person was injured while attempting to leave the home. Officers told the station they believe a post-prom gathering, attended by a large group that included teenagers, was taking place at the short-term rental property at the time the shooting occurred.

Authorities have not shared a motive in the shooting or any additional details about how the incident unfolded. However, one neighbor told FOX59/CBS4 that it appeared to be targeted.

"I heard some gunfire, and I went to the window, and I saw a car backing up the street. A white hatchback went a little bit past my house, and it stopped and then it went by again. I could hear shots again coming both ways," the local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told the station. "At least for me, it sounded like they were shooting and then people from the house were shooting back at them."

The identities and ages of the injured victims have not yet been released. Officials said the Marion County Coroner’s Office is assisting with the case and will determine the manner and cause of death of the woman who was fatally shot. Her name will be released once next of kin have been properly notified, the spokesperson said. NTD reached out to the coroner's office for comment, but a response was not received by publication time.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Christopher Winter at the IMPD Homicide Office by calling 317-327-3475 or e-mailing [email protected].

Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477. A cash reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to a felony arrest in connection with the shooting.
