A 19-year-old college student has vanished without a trace more than a week after he was last seen walking home in the early morning hours of Halloween.
His disappearance has prompted a search effort that now involves federal authorities and multiple law enforcement agencies across state lines.
What should have been a short walk home turned into a mystery when he never arrived, triggering an initial search by his roommates and campus police.
Police first announced the missing person’s report on Nov. 2, providing an update two days later. "Detectives have confirmed that Owen was walking alone onto the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway shortly after 3 a.m. on October 31, 2025," police said. His cell phone's last signal pinged in the same location around that time before going silent.
Early confusion about what Kenney was wearing has been cleared up as investigators have gathered more evidence. Rather than the Boston Celtics costume initially reported, police now believe he was dressed in a black hooded jacket, light-colored pants, and black Nike sneakers with white soles.
The missing person case is being tackled by numerous agencies, including an underwater recovery team, harbor patrol, K9 units, an unmanned aerial system team, as well as the FBI, law enforcement in South Carolina, and the New Jersey State Police.
Kenney's family posted on social media pleading for help in finding the young man.
They described him as 6 feet 1 inch tall, 155 pounds, with blue eyes, light brown hair styled in a buzzcut, and multiple tattoos on his right forearm, left shoulder, left shin, and knee.
Kenney graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in Red Bank, New Jersey, and was a resident of Tinton Falls. His disappearance also drew support from his alma mater.
Officials have also cautioned against spreading misinformation, noting that speculation circulating online can hinder the investigation by diverting resources from verifiable leads.
