A Clemson student died after falling off the roof of a house on the morning of June 30, according to multiple sources.

Clemson City Police arrived on scene at 176 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson, and found the body of Thomas Heard Few, a 20-year-old student, on the ground at around 12:45 a.m. He was immediately rushed to the Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Greenville News.

Police Chief Jimmy Dixon said that police did not think any foul play was involved in the death, but it would be investigated due to the possibility of alcohol being a contributing factor, according to Greenville News.

WYFF 4 reported that the housing where Few was found was not a part of Clemson University.

The Strategic Vice President of Communications, Joe Galbraith, said that Clemson University was made aware of the tragic incident and was in the process of gathering information for the officials in the investigation, Greenville News reported.

According to the university student directory, Few was a construction science and management student at Clemson University and was also a part of the University’s Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. Jesse Lyons, the assistant executive director for advancement and editor of the Kappa Alpha Journal, said they were in contact with the university’s officials and trying to understand what had happened to Few.

“Kappa Alpha Order and our members at Clemson mourn the tragic loss of a member due to an overnight incident. All are grieving for his family and friends,” Lyons said in a statement.

According to WYFF, the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, L. Christopher Miller, said: “Thomas was a valuable member of the Clemson Family, and we are deeply saddened by his passing. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

The news outlet also reported that the school’s counseling and psychological services would be providing grief counseling for students during this time, and said that students who wished to communicate with a counselor were free to do so.

Greenville News reported that an autopsy is scheduled for July 1, according to the Pickens County Coroner’s office. More information will come when Few’s Clemson obituary is released, WYFF reported.

Student Falls to Her Death

A Texas student enrolled in an overseas study program fell to her death while she was in Burma, also known as Myanmar, according to officials.

Kassandra “Kassie” Braun, of Fishers, Indiana, fell Tuesday, Nov. 7, while she was trying to watch a sunset in Bagan, the Arab News reported.

Braun was traveling on her own when she plunged.

“She was severely injured and died in the ambulance on the way to Mandalay General Hospital,” the Semester at Sea overseas program said in a statement.

Her parents released a statement on her death via Semester at Sea.

“They are still waiting for further details about what happened but would like everyone to know that Kassie was having the time of her life on Semester at Sea and was living her dream,” the statement said. “She was so full of life and love, gave so much to so many.”

St. Edward’s University also issued a statement on her death.

“We are deeply saddened to share with the St. Edward’s community that junior, SEU student Kassandra Braun, passed away during a tragic accident while studying abroad with Semester at Sea. Kassie was originally from McCordsdville, Indiana, and majoring in communication. Kassie attended Cathedral High School, a Holy Cross school in Indianapolis before joining the St. Edward’s University community as a Moreau Scholar,” the statement reads.

Student Dies After Falling From Campus Tower

A university senior who accidentally plummeted down from the campus bell tower passed away from her injuries.

Relatives of the Fordham University student, Sydney Monfries, were still trying to make sense of what happened, according to multiple reports. A friend of the family told New York Post that they were absolutely devastated by Monfries’s death.

“Her parents and sister are heartbroken to say the least,” Monfries’s father’s college friend, David Barfield, said.

According to the New York Post, the 22-year-old university senior and a few friends went into the Keating Hall tower—an off-limits area on the university’s Bronx campus. CNN reported that it had become a rite of passage for graduating seniors to climb the tower and take pictures.

However, one of the seniors told the New York Post that the doors weren’t always locked, and “they’re unlocked at night when they’re cleaning. They are always doing some kind of cleaning or renovation.”

The news outlet reported that Monfries fell 40 feet when she tripped on some debris inside the tower, and then landed on her head, leaving her in critical condition. Monfries was rushed to the St. Barnabas Hospital, where she passed away.

According to the university, no disciplinary actions would be taken against the students who were with Monfries on April 14.
