But it still needs formal approval—and some lawmakers threaten to block it because it doesn’t ask China to end forced labor. We spoke to a trade specialist with the Henry Jackson Society. He says China has ignored its labor rights agreement. And not everyone wins with this deal. He says that the European Commission kept this deal as far away from the European parliament as possible. And parliament members are the ones accountable to voters. He says, for now, China has escaped punishment for not complying with basic human rights.
