Four Earthquakes Hit Texas, Including a 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake

Four different earthquakes have struck Texas since the afternoon of Sept. 30, till early morning on Oct. 1.

Four different earthquakes have struck Texas since the afternoon of Sept. 30, according to Fox 26 Houston.
Two locations in Northern Texas were hit, including a 4.0 magnitude earthquake that struck 12 miles north of Snyder, just west off of the State Highway 208, according to KTXS 12. So far, only areas of Snyder and Alvarado were affected by the earthquake.
At 4:47 p.m. on Sept. 30, a 4.0 magnitude, 3-mile deep earthquake shook the area of Scurry County, where several people described the quake. KTXS 12 reported that the Scurry County Sheriff's Office had received reports of people calling in to report the shaking. According to the United States Geological Survey, over 136 had responded to the website, filling out reports of having felt the shake.

According to Fox 26 Houston, three more earthquakes struck early morning on Oct. 1. Two of these earthquakes were situated near Snyder, whereas the other one struck Alvarado. Fox 26 Houston reported that on the morning of Oct. 1, a second earthquake with a 3.8 magnitude had hit 12.4 miles northeast of Snyder around 2:14 a.m.

The third earthquake with a 2.5 magnitude happened at 6:20 a.m. on Oct. 1, and it was located 13 miles north of Snyder.

The fourth earthquake, with a 3.2 magnitude that hit Texas, was located in Alvarado around 3:21 a.m. on Oct. 1.

Fox 26 reported that no one had been injured from all four earthquakes.

11 Earthquakes Recorded in Kansas County During Weekend

The Kansas Geological Survey reports 11 earthquakes were recorded in a northern Kansas county during the weekend.

The agency’s data shows the cluster of quakes struck north and east of Randall in Jewell County Saturday and Sunday. Four of the earthquakes had a magnitude of at least 3.0.

The Wichita Eagle reports the first quakes were recorded with a 3.3 magnitude about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, with another quake about a minute later. The others were reported early Sunday. The strongest quake had a 3.5 magnitude.

The Geological Survey says three earthquakes were reported in Reno County Saturday and one was recorded in Osborne County. The strongest magnitude was 2.9.

The Kansas Corporation Commission is investigating a cluster of earthquakes in Reno County about a month ago. The investigation is focusing on the underground disposal of oilfield waste.
