Elizabeth Laird is fondly known as the “hug lady.” Short, child-like and adorable, this granny has been putting smiles on the hardened faces of soldiers for the past 12 years. In time of her struggles
Elizabeth has been struggling with breast cancer for the past 11 years. She attended every send-off and showered her hugs on soldiers, but one one day, she didn’t show up. There were soldiers who expected her and looked for her. They located her in an intensive care unit. Their loving granny was in need of love and prayers and she was not disappointed. They made her day special!

She supported these brave men and women when they faced fear and terror and they returned her love back when she required it the most. According to a video report on Kxan, Staff Sargent Jarvez Wilkes said.“It would be my honor to give her a hug in her time of need. I made it my business to get down here and show her a little love because she’s shown me plenty of love.” In a loving gesture, the brave soldiers initiated a GoFindMe account to support Elizabeth’s medical bills – raising over $80,000.
