A Texas man accused of fatally shooting his wife shot her because he was upset that she appeared to be flirting with another man, according to the couple's daughter.

The daughter of Belinda Hernandez, Christina Foos, said that she and her husband, Alex Foos, were with her mother and father at their house in Pearland on March 23.

They were drinking with her parents along with a close family friend.

According to court documents obtained by the Houston Chronicle, the couple told investigators that Belinda's husband Hilario Hernandez believed Belinda was flirting with that friend.

Alex Foos told investigators that he believed Hilario Hernandez was upset with his wife because of "perceived flirting with (the family friend)," according to the affidavit.

The daughter said she believed something was wrong when she sent her mother a text message saying she'd made it home safely but her mother didn't respond. Foos called her mother's phone; her father answered and said that Belinda was fine.

Foos and her husband went to the house and found Belinda face down in the kitchen with multiple gunshot wounds.

Foos told her husband that "her father had shot her mother."

Pearland police officers found a gun on the kitchen counter and several shell casings on the floor.

Hilario Hernandez was apprehended several hours later in Kingsville, about 100 miles north of the border.

The Houston Police Officer's Union declined to represent Hilario, who was an officer for 33 years.

"If these allegations are true, this man is a disgrace to the badge and a disgrace to the oath that he took," said Union President Joe Gamaldi.

Hernandez is facing murder charges.

Belinda Hernandez was a longtime librarian at the Shadycrest Elementary School.

The Pearland Independent School District said in a statement, "Pearland ISD is deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of our employees, Shadycrest Elementary Librarian Belinda Hernandez."

It added, "Mrs. Hernandez was a beloved, longtime employee who worked for Pearland ISD for 15 years. Pearland ISD will provide counselors for students and staff for as long as needed."

"On the morning of March 23rd, Belinda Hernandez went home to be with the Lord. Belinda was a dedicated mother and wife. She always had a smile on her face and brought a smile to the face of anyone she came in contact with," wrote Austin Fitzpatrick.

"Belinda will be missed more than anyone can even begin to grasp or explain, but helping her children with the unexpected funeral expenses is the least we can do as friends and family. If you’re able, please help out her children and extended family as much as possible. Thank you all so much. God bless."

As of March 26, more than $12,000 had been raised.
