Speaker Johnson Says He Almost Ejected Omar and Tlaib

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said he almost ejected Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) from the House chamber for heckling President Donald Trump during his State of the Union address.

“I thought Tlaib and Omar and a few others really brought shame upon their party and upon themselves. I mean, the antics were outrageous,” he told reporters following Trump’s speech.

“I came about this close from banging the gavel and having them escorted off the floor, but the president handled it very well,” Johnson continued. “And I thought, you know, let them put that on display.”

Lawmakers React to State of the Union, Democrats’ Behavior

Several lawmakers shared their opinions on President Donald Trump’s record-long State of the Union speech.

“He had focused on a lot of things,” said Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.). “That’s why the speech was so long. He’s had a lot of successes.”

Burchett said he thought the president did a good job, specifically recalling mentions of energy independence, banning insider trading, and “celebrating incredible Americanism.” He said he was disappointed at the way his Democratic colleagues behaved.

“I was disappointed that the Democrats didn’t cheer for things like home ownership and things like that,” he said. “But I guess when you’re a Marxist, that’s what you get.”

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) also noted how lawmakers from both chambers behaved during the speech.

“You got to see really clearly who wants to work with this president to get the country back on track and lower costs, and who wants to just try to promote chaos and block things and raise taxes,” he said, noting the Democratic lawmakers stood up and applauded their efforts to block tax cuts during the speech.

Meanwhile, Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.) came to the defense of his fellow Democrats, saying that he thought his caucus was respectful and he did not see anything out of the ordinary.

“I mean, yes, people were frustrated, and they have every right to show their frustration,” he said. “But in the end, a lot of people were clapping when it made sense to clap.”

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) said that he thought the recognition of the gold medal-winning hockey team was positive as well as the recognition of the decorated veterans. But other than that, there was a lot that he disagreed with.

Spanberger Criticizes Trump’s Over Immigration Enforcement

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, giving the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech, criticized the president over federal immigration enforcement operations.

“Our president has sent poorly trained federal agents into our cities where they have arrested and detained American citizens and people who aspire to be Americans, and they have done it without a warrant,” she said. “They have ripped nursing mothers away from their babies.

“Our broken immigration system is something to be fixed, not an excuse for unaccountable agents to terrorize our communities.”

Spanberger Focuses on Affordability in Democratic Response to Trump’s Address

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger, giving the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech, took aim at the president on affordability.

“Let’s speak plainly and honestly,” she said. “And let me ask you, the American people watching at home, three questions: Is the president working to make life more affordable for you and your family? Is the president working to keep Americans safe, both at home and abroad? Is the president working for you?”

Spanberger gave the speech in Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.

Trump Ends Record-Long Speech

After an hour and 47 minutes, President Donald Trump wrapped up his record-long State of the Union address.

Trump Awards Medal of Honor to WWII Veteran

World War II Navy veteran Captain Royce Williams was awarded the Medal of Honor during Trump’s address tonight.

Before closing his speech, the president said he had one more “living legend” to honor.

Williams was a fighter pilot in World War II, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He flew more than 220 missions in 1952, Trump said.

“Royce was in the dogfight of a lifetime, a legendary dogfight, flying through blizzard conditions,” the president stated during his address. “His squadron was ambushed by seven Soviet fighter planes.”

This encounter became Williams’s first aerial combat of the war.

Despite being outnumbered, outgunned, and injured, Trump said the Navy pilot took down four enemy fighters while taking 263 bullets to his own plane.

“His story was secret for over 50 years. He didn’t even want to tell his wife, but the legend grew and grew,” Trump said. “Tonight, at 100 years old, this brave Navy captain is finally getting the recognition he deserves.”

First Lady Melania Trump adorned Williams with the Medal of Honor in the gallery.

He became the second American military veteran to receive the award tonight. A helicopter pilot who was wounded in the raid and capture of Venezuela leader Nicolás Maduro also received the Medal of Honor.

Trump Awards Medal of Honor to Helicopter Pilot Wounded in Maduro Raid

While touting the January raid to capture wanted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, President Donald Trump noted the actions of one U.S. Army soldier involved in the operation, Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover.

Slover was maneuvering a CH-47 Chinook troop transport helicopter when he and his co-pilot were struck by a burst of machine-gun fire.

“Eric was hit very badly in the leg and hip, one bullet after another. He absorbed four agonizing shots, shredding his leg into numerous pieces,” Trump said.

Despite his wounds, Slover continued to bring the helicopter to its landing point, allowing the assault force to proceed with the mission to capture Maduro.

“The success of the entire mission and the lives of his fellow warriors hinge on Eric’s ability to take searing pain,” Trump said.

The president called Slover into the room and used the opportunity to present him with the Medal of Honor. It was the first such instance of a U.S. military member receiving the highest individual award for military valor during a State of the Union address.

Trump Gives Shoutout to Former Venezuelan Political Prisoner

President Donald Trump gave a shoutout to Alejandro Gonzalez, a former political prisoner in Venezuela.
Trump said that Gonzalez was freed when the prison he was held in closed following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in Caracas by the U.S. military in January.

Trump Breaks Record for Longest State of the Union Speech

President Donald Trump has broken a record for the longest State of the Union speech given, speaking for more than 1 hour and 41 minutes.
Prior to that, the record was held by former President Bill Clinton, whose final State of the Union address in 2000 lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

Trump Honors Coast Guard Rescuer

During Trump’s State of the Union address, he awarded one of his guests, U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskin, with the Legion of Merit award, which is given for acts of extraordinary heroism.

Ruskin rescued 165 people amid the devastating, deadly Texas floods last summer that killed more than 130 people.

“It was Scott's first ever rescue mission—young guy, but very brave, very, very top, always top in his class,” the president said.

One of those individuals that Ruskin saved was 11-year-old Millie Kate, who is also a guest at Trump’s speech tonight.

She was at summer camp in central Texas when floodwaters swept through the area.

“She thought she was going to die,” Trump said. “Tonight, Scott and Millie Kate are here together, reunited for the very first time.”

Trump: Gas Production at ‘All-Time High’

Natural gas production is at record levels, and gas prices have plummeted, the president said.

“I kept my promise to drill, baby, drill.”

Trump touted his support for fossil fuel production, nuclear energy, mining, and mineral processing, as well as environmental regulation roll-backs.

Domestic oil production is up more than 600,000 barrels a day, the president said. The United States has received more than 80 million barrels from “our new friend,” Venezuela, he said.

Gasoline is down from over $6 a gallon to below $2.30 a gallon in most states, Trump said.

Trump Awards Purple Heart to National Guardsman

Trump awarded a Purple Heart to Andrew Wolfe, who was one of two West Virginia National Guardsmen ambushed and shot in Washington last year. The other guardmember, Sarah Beckstrom, died.

Wolfe was in the House chamber to accept the award.

Trump also gave a shoutout to the family of Beckstrom.

Trump Honors Virginia Teenager

In the gallery for Trump’s State of the Union address tonight is Sage Blair, a Virginia teenager who was 14 years old when she was separated from her parents.

“School officials in Virginia sought to socially transition her to a new gender, treating her as a boy and hiding it from her parents,” the president said.

Sage ran away from home, confused by school officials who told her she could use the male bathroom, a male name, and male pronouns while at school, the president said.

A judge refused to return Sage to her parents because they didn’t agree that their daughter was their son, Trump said, adding that the teenager was then put into an all-boys school.

She suffered greatly, the president said.

“But today, all of that is behind them because Sage is a proud and wonderful young woman with a full-ride scholarship to Liberty University,” Trump said during his speech, which was followed by a standing ovation.

No states should be allowed to take children away and encourage them to transition to a new gender against their parents’ will, Trump said.

“Nobody stands up,” the president said of Democrat lawmakers in the chamber. “These people are crazy.”

Trump Calls for Passage of SAVE America Act

President Donald Trump repeated his calls for the passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act.

The bill would require people to present two forms of identification in addition to a Social Security card to register to vote.

“Why would anybody not want voter ID? One reason is because they want to cheat. There’s only one reason,” Trump said.

Opponents of the SAVE America Act note that voting by non-citizens is illegal at every state and federal level in the country, and point to potential funding and administrative difficulties the bill could cause.

Trump Calls for Litmus Test

Trump said there should be a litmus test when it comes to protecting Americans.

“I’m inviting every [legislator] to join with my administration and reaffirming a fundamental principle. If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support. The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens.”

The Democrats in the House chamber did not stand.

The president blamed Democrats for shutting down the Department of Homeland Security, saying they “have cut off all funding.”

Trump, who called for defunding sanctuary cities—which shield illegal immigrants from federal immigration authorities—told the Democrats that they should be ashamed of themselves.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) yelled, “You have killed Americans.”

Trump Highlights Case of Ukrainian Woman Killed on North Carolina train

Among those in the audience was the mother of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee who was fatally stabbed by a man on a North Carolina commuter train last August.

“We will ensure justice for your magnificent daughter, Iryna,” Trump said.

The killing, captured on camera in Charlotte, sparked intense criticism over why the suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., was on the street despite 14 prior criminal arrests.

The Trump administration has pointed to the killing to argue that local leaders, judges, and policies in Democratic-led cities are failing to protect residents from violent crime.

Brown has been charged with a federal crime that could carry the death penalty.

Girl Who Survived Car Crash Honored as Trump Calls for Limits on Commercial Licenses

Trump called on Congress to pass a bill barring states from granting commercial driver’s licenses to immigrants in the country illegally. He wants to call it “Dalilah’s law,” to be named after Dalilah Coleman, a young girl who survived critical injuries from a 2024 car crash and was in the audience.

Dalilah drew applause when she smiled and waved in her father’s arms. Trump called her a “fantastic inspiration.”

The Department of Homeland Security highlighted Dalilah’s story in a September news release, saying she was 5 when she was injured in a multi-car pileup caused by a tractor trailer driven by an immigrant from India who came to the country illegally. DHS officials said the man was released into the country by the Biden administration.

Trump: Residential Customers Won’t Pay to Grow Grid

Trump said his new “rate payer protection pledge” will ensure residential customers don’t foot the bill to expand electricity grids amid surging demand largely generated by data centers.

Tech companies can “build their own power plants as part of their factory, so that no one's prices will go up and, in many cases, prices of electricity will go down for the community,” he said.

The president said the strategy “will ensure the company's ability to get electricity, while, at the same time, lowering prices of electricity for you.”

Trump Says He’ll Have Government Give $1,000 to Retirement Accounts

“We will match your contribution with up to $1,000 each year, as we ensure that all Americans can profit from a rising stock market.”

Trump is pitching a new plan for the government starting next year to provide up to $1,000 to people without employer sponsored retirement accounts who put in the same amount of money or more.

It’s not clear how the president would fund this match or what it would cost.

Many workers who already have 401(k) retirement plans receive some level of matching investments from their employers.

Trump Calls for Insider Trading Ban for Members of Congress

Trump's calls for legislation that would ban lawmakers from stock trading based on insider information received bipartisan cheers.

“How about you first!” Rep. Mark Takano, a California Democrat, yelled after the president expressed surprise that the Democrats joined in the standing ovation.

“You’re the most corrupt president!” Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat, also yelled.

“They stood up for that,” Trump remarked. “Did Nancy Pelosi stand up?” the president quipped, drawing a collective “Woah!” from the Republican side of the aisle.

Trump Highlights Lower Drug Prices

President Donald Trump touted his first-year effort at lowering health care costs by highlighting his Most-Favored-Nation Prescription Drug Pricing.

Fifteen companies agreed to offer some medications, and all new medications, to U.S. customers at the lowest prices available in any developed country.

The president introduced a guest, Catherine Rayner, who had been using drugs for IVF treatments costing $4,000. She was able to buy the medication through TrumpRx.gov, a clearinghouse website for low-priced drugs, for $500.

Trump Announces Vance to Lead ‘War on Fraud’

Trump announced Vice President JD Vance will lead “the war on fraud.”

He called out the welfare fraud in Minnesota, which has resulted in dozens of Somali immigrants being convicted and charged.

Trump Takes Aim at ‘Very Unfortunate Ruling’ by Supreme Court

President Donald Trump took aim at the Supreme Court for its decision to overturn his global tariffs.

While celebrating the economic record in his administration’s first year, the president said the high court issued a “very unfortunate ruling.”

Despite the court’s decision, countries will keep their trade agreements with the United States and “continue to work along the same successful path that we had negotiated before the Supreme Court’s unfortunate involvement,” Trump said.

Democrats Applaud When Trump Mentions Votes Against Tax Cut Bill

Multiple Democratic lawmakers in the audience stood up and applauded when Trump criticized their votes last year against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

“All Democrats, every single one of them, voted against these really important and very necessary massive tax cuts,” Trump said.

Democrats have been criticizing the legislation, saying it disproportionately benefited the wealthy and funded its tax breaks by making significant cuts to Medicaid.

Trump: US Has Received Over 80 Million Barrels of Venezuelan Oil

The president said the United States has received more than 80 million barrels of oil from its “new friend and partner, Venezuela.”

That exceeds what his administration had initially projected in the days after the U.S. military carried out a stunning raid in Venezuela’s capital last month and captured then-leader Nicolás Maduro.

Venezuela’s oil industry produces roughly 1 million barrels a day. The country has the world’s largest proven oil reserves.

Trump vowed to turn around Venezuela’s crippling oil industry after Maduro was captured and taken to New York to face drug trafficking charges.

The president said the women’s hockey team, which also won gold, will be coming to the White House. The women declined to attend the State of the Union, citing schedule conflict.

In his State of the Union speech, President Donald Trump will call out welfare fraud.

Trump to Ask Congress to Take on Investment Firms Buying Homes
